Thanks everyone :D :D

The most amazing thing out of it all was the reaction of folk when I was driving home. I have never had that response to any other car. SD had a slight response in her wedding outfit, so to speak, but this eclipsed it totally.

As mentioned before, a huge thank you to all who helped out in getting Flipper back on the road. :bluewave:

Again!
I recomissioned Flipper about 5 years ago after pulling it out of a scrap yard it has since passed through a few owners.
I have to admit that the car looked no where near as a good as it does now so all credit to Ken.

Whilst the TC flounders unsold, I have moved it into the garage to attend to the niggly little odds and sods of bodywork.

This means that Flipper now resides outside the house. She looks good in a slightly 'rough' sort of way, a bit like the breakers yard hound that eats seats, craps everywhere and growls at the slightest provocation whilst fixing you with a gimlet eyed stare until you then get into the car, find she starts first turn of the key (as usual) and settles into a gentle idle, it all changes for the better :D :D

She might get a bucket of saopy water chucked over her tonight as she is a little dusty. The black crinkle dash and the ally switch plate really do look neat IMHO. I will post some pics tonight.

She just needs some sounds and a good run. Maybe a red leather steering wheel cover too. Anyone know where I could get one?

Cheers

Ken

Can't see you managing without tunes for too long ken ;)

As for red leather wheel covers - I've been looking for about the last 6 months for Matilda and can't find any without paying obscene prices to get one hand-made and flown over from America. Lots of "sporty black with red bits" ones but no plain, tasteful, knock-yer-eyes-out red ones :(

Just a thought (it happens, don't look so shocked):

Is it the feel of a cover that you need on the steering wheel, Ken, or just the change of colour?
I reckon that, if it's the colour that you crave, then enamel paint may be the solution.

Years ago, when I ran my Beetle 1500 auto, I lusted after the white steering wheel that a friend had on her earlier Bug but those white wheels weren't available at sensible money even then and besides, I thought it only right that folk who owned cars which had them originally really ought to have had first dibs at white steering wheels when they became available.
Not wanting to be outdone, I bought a few cans of some kind of enamel-based aerosol paint in the correct shade of creamy white and used that to create my own white wheel for the Bug.
It took a few days to build up the depth of paint I was after and to let it all harden properly, but once it was hardened, I simply rubbed down the join between the various areas of paint with fine wet & dry, then finished off with a coat of eggshell lacquer.

The result was indistinguishable from an original, white phenolic wheel.

Maybe worth a look? You could always pop a different wheel on there to use while you build the paint up. :)

Hmm, didn't think it would be that hard to get one. Thanks for the idea re: paint but it is more for the 'feel' than anything else.

I shall continue the search!!!!
