Hi M8 just thought you would like to no i owned ggn 647n from 1995 to 2003 i called her Dollie, and have always regretted selling her ,Words cant express how pleased i was to find out you saved her from being scraped, and so surprised at the rusty condition she was in when you bought her considering me and my dad had carried out extensive restoration on her .i am the one that had the fibreglass wings fitted and the front was a new panel aswell thats why the wings fit so well
. i spent around £2000 on her including a respray .i also had the engine totally rebuilt and a recon head fitted (not unleaded as lrp was around ).you should have some history with the car as i had all mot`s from the first ,bill of sale from second owner showing he traded in a triumph herald estate for her
.i even had the service book,i do have pictures of my restoration if you wanna have a look, and she was in a old dolly mixture club mag as she won dolly of the day at peterbourgh ferry meadows show in 2001.oh and im the culprut for the sprint alloy wheels i dumped the caps and steelies ( things we do at 19) .she had a full carpet set fitted by me and im the one that put the plastic on the doors,im so pleased m8 that she has now found a home where she will be looked after and cherished like she deserves seems shes had some terrible abuse since i sold her.hope she brings you as much enjoyment as she brought me m8.on ending you said about the hazard warner switch. The Tc`s were not fitted with them and as i wanted to keep her as close to orig as poss i never fitted any .i still have the origional reg plates screwed to my shed door :]can you post a piccy of the finished car if it is that is,id so much like to see her in all her glory
if theres anything you wuold like to no dont hestitae to ask me m8

Pure gold history like that. I am sure Darren will be over the moon to learn of the car's history. Thanks for posting this.colreco73 wrote:Hi M8 just thought you would like to no i owned ggn 647n from 1995 to 2003 i called her Dollie, and have always regretted selling her ,Words cant express how pleased i was to find out you saved her from being scraped, and so surprised at the rusty condition she was in when you bought her considering me and my dad had carried out extensive restoration on her .i am the one that had the fibreglass wings fitted and the front was a new panel aswell thats why the wings fit so well. i spent around £2000 on her including a respray .i also had the engine totally rebuilt and a recon head fitted (not unleaded as lrp was around ).you should have some history with the car as i had all mot`s from the first ,bill of sale from second owner showing he traded in a triumph herald estate for her

Like Alan said, that's brilliant stuff right there. Darren, where are you? How you keeping? Is everything OK? Speak to us mate, your project is missed.
Re: Restoration Triumph 1500TC
its really strange how this happened really ,iv always regretted selling her,i decided to buy a mgb gt so she had to go so i auctioned her at norwich showground classic car auction where she sold for a mere £550 ,to somone who used her everyday
and never cleaned her ,then i heard he scaped her cos she needed a bit of welding and thats the last i heard of her.untill 2 days ago i checked dvla and saw she was taxed till 2012. so i randomly put the reg no in google search engine .and behold couldnt beleive my eyes there she was being restored yet again .
happy days

Re: Restoration Triumph 1500TC
Yeah, everyday use is undoubtedly the best thing for an older car, so many potential pitfalls with rubber components if a car only sees use occasionally, so it's probably a result of its being used regularly that's seen to it that it's still around now and being restored to a high standard by Darren.

Ah! Does this mean that she's finished then?taxed till 2012.

Re: Restoration Triumph 1500TC
vehicle status............... SORN not due.
Meaning it is on SORN and not taxed.

Hi Guys
Its been along time and as you know I had some heath issues, so I took time out knowing that Mable is stored at home and I can go out when I wanted to. A new off side rear wing has been fitted now and will crack on soon as now I can breathe more easily. I've still been buying bits that I need so I can do one final push from now til winter.
There's about 15hrs of more welding to do, alot on the inner rear wing as we have to rebuild as we go along.
Hi Colin
It's so nice to hear where she was for soo long, and I could tell in places especially the front panel area that she had had alot of money spent on her over the years. I had no history with her when I bought her, I have tried contacting the previous owner but to no avail.
I would love to look at the old pics off her one day, and if you ever wish to view her, your always welcome for a brew.
All the best to all, watch this space!!!!

Re: Restoration Triumph 1500TC
hi daz really good to c u are back .when i get round to getting my scanner sorted out il post my old piccys of mable .just one thing m8 i noticed u have a pair of wing mounted mirrors .not gonna interfere as its your car now :] but i was gonna fit some mirrors like what you have cos mable was never fitted with any origionally (they were a optional extra lol) but was advised not to as it will weaken and possably lead to the wings cracking .just thought id let you no m8 .may i say what a top job you are doing and so glad you rescued her from being weighed in .another thing passenger dor was a replacment and needed the brown tinted sundyn glass fitted as if you look carfully the glass in the car is tinted another added option when she was new :]

No offence to the person who gave you that advice, but it's piffle.

Re: Restoration Triumph 1500TC
well its because the wings wernt of the best quality apparantly .and it was the one that fitted them he fitted the front panel aswell and had to cut some of the lower part or the wings and re fibreglass them so the matched in properly

Hi Colin
Can't wait to see the pic's of Mable in all her glory, I always knew brown car's were more fun.
As for the wing mirrors, I've made some plates that will be applied inside the wings as to spread the load, hopefully this will work.
I did notice that the glass was a different shade, part of her history so won't be getting changed, all the doors are pretty sound, just a rub down in some area's, my estimate in cost will be around the 2k mark like yourself, i'm already over the 1k mark for the project so 2k every 16 years isn't too bad.
But when she is done she will only probably come out spring to autumn and parked up for winter.
All the Best
