Carmine Red Restoration

#1 Post by aodanosiurdain »

I am posting some pics of the repairs and improvements I made to the carmine Red Dolomite 1500 automatic that i bought in London. I got some very welcome assistance from Ken , thanks again Ken. She is a fine solid car, structurally very sound, perfect interior and a lively engine. She continues to have autobox issues but not bad enough to force me to make a drastic intervention just yet. I repaired the rear end damage, replaced the chrome bumber section and did a bit of filling and respraying. While the colour match isn't great its not bad and not too glaringly obvious as its only in a small less than obvious corner. Other than that I've had the door caps off and they have been stripped professionally and relaquered. They look great. She cost me a fair bit, a bit more than anticipated to be honest but I'm delighted with her to accompany my 1850 russet brown. Enjoy the pics.

I trust you're carrying a Lucozade Sport bottle for those inevitable ATF top-ups?

And a hand grenade hanging from the interior mirror. Surely these should be kept in the glovebox?

Thanks for the comments guys! I took the door caps off both cars, 8 in total and a guy I know machined them right down to bare wood and resprayed them, cost €10 each but well worth it they look great. PJ I'm not sure on the rocker cover question. AJ

He has sanded through the veneer I am afraid it is extremely thin. Looking at the pictures above you can see all the knots etc has actually gone.

They should look like this:

Still yours do still look okay though.

Nice pair Aidan :D I agree with previous comments, carmine is a great colour on these cars. Did you ring Damian about taking a look at it for you?

No Gary I didn't ring him yet because I had plenty to be going on with of a non complicated nature. The car drives great and looks well despite the autobox issue. I may give him a bell at some stage, where exactly is he based? As regards my door caps I dont see any appreciable difference between mine and the other one shown. All in all im very pleased with the car. AJ

Hi Aidan, saw your cars on Done Deal, sorry to see you are "getting out" of Dolly ownership, or have you another hidden away.Is the autobox sorted on the 1500? I might have some one that might be interested in the auto,if he hasnt already bought another car(auto) that he is currently looking at, I wont know until weekend.
Talk to you soon. PJB
