my blue dolomite

#1 Post by willis »

I have had this Dolomite about a year now and not really got down to doing anything with it yet. I have sanded down and re-varnished all the interior wood panelling and put some new vinyl over the parcel shelf which was enjoyable, but don't really know where to start with the upper body work. All the lower body work was sorted out by previous owner, but the upper body has a lot of filler and botches. (pictures show inside before any work I have done so far)

Can't help with the body, but if you want a Dolomite speedometer to match the rest of the instruments and replace that Toledo one with its redundant warning lamps, I have a new/old stock one that's never been used and comes in its factory box.

Curiosity has the better of me though; why does a Dolomite, which was built with an 1854cc OHC slant four as all cars badged just "Dolomite" were, have an OHV engine from a Toledo or 1500 fitted? The body, as long as it's not falling apart, would worry me less than that conversion. :?

you have quite an early dolomite there :D whats the chassis no would be interesting to see how early it is ? it depends how far you are wanting to go with the car and the budget you have ,if your wanting to try and have a go at the bodywork yourself i would check out some of the restoration threads plenty of useful info on there ,all the interior items etc that you need can often be obtained very reasonably ,also wereabouts are you you never know you maybe near someone that can help :D

If you want I can start you on your way back to how it should be...

I have the odd slant 4 engine and box that you could rebuild and a sub frame too and an early exhaust.

You want to remove that ohv paper weight before you are much older or your car will decide its not going to put up with such an insult any longer and fail its mot on principal.

You also need the right front bumper with longer rubbers on teh over riders. Sorry I dont have a spare.

PM me if you want any bits to put it all right.

Nice early Dolomite :)
Just needs a bit of tlc and then remove the 1296cc lump and put jonners engine and 'box in and it's sorted :)
Nice little project I think

/\/\/\/\ Yes, plus the Dolomite front subframe to match the engine. Ice Blue's a great shade, IMHO. My first was that colour.

Are you the chap I was chatting to at the Beaulieu Autojumble (I was in the throws of buying what I thought was a front Dolomite bumper at the time)?
