How much do I hate doing paint work??!

#1 Post by melj »

Been treating a few rust bubbles and scabs this weekend, have seriously neglected the car this year and need to sort some things out before winter is upon us again. But it's the one thing I really hate doing: a) it never looks pretty at the end b) I never have enough time to do it thoroughly (weekends at mum's making use of the garage/driveway) and c) something always goes wrong! This time it's a weird paint reaction giving me a white-ish halo around the area I have just top-coated. I've gone down the route of slap some more paint layers on and it seems to have sorted itself out.

More to do yet though - rather nasty looking rusty hole on the top of the rear wing, so my infamous filler skills will have to come into play next weekend! Poor car.... I'd pay a man but my financial situation is not what it once was and I really can't afford to. She'll never win a concourse medal....

I'd much rather be getting oily than doing paint work, I just don't have the patience for it. As long as it stops the rust though, I guess it doesn't matter to me that the car ends up looking like a patchwork quilt!

Mel, drive your car to 4wheels and ask him how much to weld a patch in, it's got to better than doing it yourself. Mention, 'Gordon with the blue Volvo recommended'

You're right, it's got to be better than doing it myself! Just about anything is better than that.... !

Next chance I get I'll pop over - need to fit in an MOT this month as well, which I'm hoping won't be too awful.

Hi Mel,
If you are ever over on the west coast I'm in the garage most weekends welding up a rusty ford zephyr.
I'm getting really good at patches :D
