Well it was the waterpump. The splines had completely gone on the top of the shaft so the impeller was slipping a bit. Obviously the more revs the more it slipped & the louder the squeal. It's great to have found the fault but I don't know why it has done this.

I managed to smash mine whilst pulling it all apart. I could only get a replacement from Jonners at the time which was prone to spinning as well so i drilled the impellor both sides and tapped in grub screws and dimpled the shaft. Added some locktite and all seems well so far ......

The Alun fix is to drill a hole between impellor and shaft parallel to the axis of the shaft and drift in a roll pin....
A very nifty solution. It doesnt need much...just enough to stop it spinning.

Note from Admin: sadly Jon passed away in February 2018 but his humour and wealth of knowledge will be fondly remembered by all. RIP Jonners.

Now that's a handy tip(s) as I have a 12 vane impellor that has been machined but the splines are gone. :D

Scotch Dowel. Works a treat. If you are a real tight a*** or don't have a roll pin available a small diameter nail or even the inner shaft from a pop rivet will also work.

I finally took PUS back to the spray shop this morning. I'm always apprehensive taking my projects on the road for the first time. 8-[ But I am glad to report that the maiden drive was great, apart from the fuel & temp. gauge not working for the first mile or so, then they started working (probably a bad connection on the VS) and the throttle is sticking slightly. So it will be in for an MoT test on Monday and then the sprayer will be finishing off, hopefully have it back by next weekend. :D

PUS has an MoT. :D Three advisories:- 1. Exhaust blowing on joint. Obviously I knew about that & told them about it. I need to get a meatier clamp as the standard cheapy ones don't seem to be man enough. Can't remember the size off hand, anyone advise? 2. Play in front wheel bearing. I guess the bearings settled a little on the journey down. 3. Sprayer couldn't remember so I'll let you know later in the week.

I almost came up the other week. I shall be up shortly to view a couple of the vehicles you sent me photos of & probably bring a couple of old core starter motors with me.

Alun has one. When I was down there I joked that it should be Mart's next project as he hasn't done an auto yet.

We collected PUS from the sprayers yesterday & on the way back home popped in to get the stripes put on.

This morning I jacked it up & took off the diff. cover to renew the gasket, then I proceeded to fit the new rear gearbox oil seal...

After that we put the chrome cill trims & the chrome boot trim on and the rest of the badges & fitted the headlight surrounds.

I have a few more things to look at but essentially PUS is finished.
