1300FWD Replacement seat belts

The Static belts on my 1300 have failed (spring in buckle failed). I want to replace with inertia type and have looked up the application list on the Securon web site. They list part no 500/150. Looking at the pictures, the buckle strap is very short; I assume 150mm long by the part number.
The problem is that the original mounting points are in the rear floor behind the front seats and no way would a short strap reach. Rimmers list the same belt for Dolomites some with 150mm straps and some with 300mm straps. However even the 300mm straps would be too short. Have any of you guys fitted new belts to the 1300 fwd? If so how? Any advise on mounting points or alternative belts appreciated

I have inertia belts in mine but they were already fitted when i bought it (1986). I would of thought that the 300mm long center ones would be ok, it depends how long your legs are as in where the seat is positioned.

I fitted inertia belts to mine years ago.

If you telephone Securon (rather than just going through their website) they are very helpful and will make up to order any size stalk that you require at comparatively small extra cost.

I would be interested to know if your stalks use the original centre mounting points in the rear floor. Looking at my car they would need to be over 450 mm long to even stand a chance of fitting irrespective of where the seat is. The originals were long webbing ones that clipped to eyebolts in the floor.
I have seen shorter ones attached using the seat runner mounting bolts but am not sure if that is acceptable.
The problem with buying direct from Securon is that they charge twice the price of their retailers!

I will look tomorrow but I may have to remove the seats to lift that part of the carpet. There is no tunnel as such on the 1300fwd. Hence my thoughts regarding using the rear seat runner to floor bolt as an anchor point for the stalk.

No, please don't do that.
Seat mounting bolts are only 5/16" UNF whereas seatbelt/buckle bolts should be 7/16" UNF.

On KAC I've added a tunnel mounting by drilling, and then attaching a large spreader plate. This lets me use a single central mounting for the Securon short strap bucckles.

If you want to go to the original point, you need (from memory) the stalks for a mk 4 Cortina, or similar.

Since we are discussing a fitment that could well save yours and your front passengers lives in an accident, I would have thought personally that paying a firm a few extra pounds to ensure good and proper fitment in the factory mounting points was a no brainer.


Bruce is correct - the longer stalks were fitted to Mark 3 and 4 Cortina's, which had the mounts in almost exactly the same place as a 1300FWD.

Haven't got around to fitting them to Sheila yet (or doing much else to her recently ) but I did fit them to Sian's Daf. She specifically wanted long stalks for ease of reaching so we got 450mm and I checked them against Sheila's mounts out of interest. They were just about right.

Spoke to Securon today. They said that the short buckle strap was for seat mounting so the application list on their site was wrong. The guy I spoke to was insistent that the flexible stalks should not be bent and should be kept as straight as possible. Finished up by saying that they didn’t think they could help me.

I've fitted dolomite inertia belts to my 1300 but used a spreader plate for the mount between the seats

Looks like thats the answer then. I will have to make up a spreader plate and mount that goes between the seats.

Yes, your right. i've been out with the tape measure, just goes to show that sometimes you don't realize how big something is until you measure it.
From the center of the mounting eyelet to the top of the buckle is 45cm, and you wouldn't want it any shorter than that in my (revised) opinion.
