Corgi Vanguards models

#1 Post by Toledo Man »

Alun mentioned the ex-Simon Wood magenta Sprint auto in my eBay thread and it reminded me of the Corgi Vanguards models becuase SGX was one of the models (and the one I have) so I thought I'd start a separate thread and get a complete list of the Dolomite models and the details of the real cars (like the list of 1500SEs that YMGW did).

This the extent of my knowledge (and research) about the real cars so if anybody can fill in the gaps please do so. If anybody objects to their name or registration number being in this thread please PM me and I'll edit/remove it.

Magenta Sprint - SGX67R formerly owned by Simon Wood (currently on eBay)
Mimosa Sprint - FRW603L VA6 owned by Ian Hazlehurst (previous Membership Secretary)
Brooklands Sprint
Tahiti Blue Sprint - Last known to be Stateside
White 1850
Carmine 1850
Police Sprint - In Nottinghamshire Constabulary livery.
Triplex Rally Sprint - Raced by the late great Gerry Marshall (no relation to Rob or me!)
Yellow 1500HL (hidden treasure version)
BL Works Sprint - Is this the one that BTK currently owns?

I have a copy of the following 160-page hardback book about police cars which I bought a few years ago, in the local public-library’s second-hand book sale, for a very modest sum (probably as little as £0•40):

Malcolm Bobbitt, “Police Cars”, Sutton Publishing Ltd., 2001, ISBN 0-7509-2510-8..

On Page 128 of Chapter 6 – Blue Lights and Sirens, there is a black & white photograph of a West Yorkshire Police, early-model Triumph Dolomite 1850 (registration number UNT 902L). The photograph’s caption reads:

« Only subtle styling differences distinguish this Triumph Dolomite from the more basic 1500 models. West Yorkshire had a number of Dolomites in its fleet, promising good performance from their slant-four 1•85-litre ohc engines. Over 100 mph and sports saloon handling could be expected. (Colin Chipperfield Collection) »
