A week of stressing with buggy router firmware, suppliers who dont want to know, and a random coincidence of a DHCP fault at the Post Office, and our new business VOIP line from sipgate.co.uk (with free local number included) is now working properly :)

Free line with instant setup*, no line rental, free voicemail, free caller ID, free phone number (with the right area code), free emails when you receive voicemail (with the message attached) and a £12 bnib Ip phone off Ebay. Plus calls at 1.19p per minute to landlines and 9.9p per minute to mobiles.

Compared to BT @ £130 (+vat) installation with a 4 week order time, £15 a month line rental forever, and call rates of 7.95p / 11.5p per minute.

That strikes me as a bargain :)

* if you don't count the week of faffing with hardware that wasn't their fault!

Every time I get an endowment policy review it is marked green & on track or red & in the s##t based upon a projected growth rate of 6% resulting in a surplus or shortfall. Further, they always state that "[our] general view is that 6.00% each year is currently a reasonable assumption for the rate of long-term future investment growth".

So how is 'reasonable' given that they have only achieved 6% growth in 4 of the 15 years the plan has run? How is it 'reasonable' given that after the first 5 years actual growth revealed a projected 22% shortfall I increased my payments by 33% and that still isn't enough to give more than a fag paper thin margin?

I wouldn't call 6% reasonable, I'd call it suicidally optimistic. Complaint lodged.

Effectively after 5 years they held there hand out for more money to achieve no greater result.

Imagine if you bought a Ford Mundano for 30K on a 10 year all inclusive contract and after 2 years Ford decided they wanted £38k over the life of contract instead. Then after year 6 they said it's looking like the car might not make it that far and would Sir like to consider paying a little more?

I want a shed. I can get one for a few hundred quid which is perfect. But then, if I'm going to get one, I may as well get a big one. If I'm going to get a big one, I may as well get a posh one. I can't afford a big posh shed so now I'm not getting one at all.
Got to stop this way of thinking.

[on topic]Congratulations! But how do you know you'll be a great granddad rather than just an adequate one until he's been around for a while?  [/on topic]

Inside it's today 29,8 degrees and outside 34. Doing nothing today, only sitting next to the fridge and open the door once a while.

Used esnipe to bid on a triumph 2000 mk1. All was well, set up to bid with 6 seconds to go. Then ebay decided I needed to verify my phone number again. No time, lost auction. 770 quid it went for, I would have gone to a grand and it was less than 5 miles away.
Not happy.
