Rear tie bar mounting to chassis - Cracked! Weak spot?

#1 Post by toyracer »

Dropped my Sprint off this morning to have the rear off-side tie bar mounting welded up - it has fractured where the bracket is mounted to the body (next to the body, no rust in sight) and an ungodly clonking sound had resulted. The garage are repairing and stengthening the area on both sides, since the near-side rear had started cracking (a small amount) as well.

Ayone else had this? I couldn't find any other threads. Mine is an early car, so wondering if it was a weak point that was revised in later models.

At least I can get the Poly Bushes fitted while they sort that out, and save me the hassle!

I've never seen it on any of mine, but they are all getting old now and we have to expect things like this to start happening.

VLK was gone on one side so both were strengthened.
