I must admit, I didn't see it on the bay either.

Andrew, that was exactly the same pages that Tony showed me.

Tony, you'll have to start a resto thread as well now.

So hopefully by this time tomorrow, VHK will be safely tucked up in my garage, with the track Sprint demoted to the drive.

Welcome to the forum Tony.

I second what Mart has said. Get that thread started! This should be an interesting resto. Mart, you'll notice quite a few differences between the early and later Sprints (thicker wheel studs & tandem brakes to mention two).

the Essex Girl arrives.

Dismantled by Sunday eve and off to the body shop next week then.

Those Sills look a tad "cover sills" but that aside, it looks to be all there.

testing my memory to ensure I can still zip up, differences on the very very late models would be, no seams in vinyl, standard D badges on the Rear Pillars, Black and Gold Laurel badge on front panel, commission number in rear boot channel, square TW.....AT commission plate, one OSR Foglamp and the wheel centre caps had a number of circles pressed in to them.

Good reference is Paul Booker's very late Sprint, it's also on a W plate. Mine's 79 build , V reg and doesn't feature the laurel badge or the chassis number in the boot area. Mine also has 2 fog lamps rather than 1, I suspect these were dealer fit rather than factory.

What a gorgeous day it was today! :D

We cracked on with VHK (after I'd stood around speaking with the neigbours for an hour or so) and we got on quite well. Once we'd removed all the spares from the car & stored them we stripped off all the remaining trim. Windscreens were removed as well as the vinyl roof (that had been bugging me). Dashboard & steering wheel removed as were all the seats, carpets & seat belts. Unfortunately the paint stripper we ordered didn't arrive in time for the weekend so Mary couldn't start on the paint stripping. Tomorrow we'll be stripping the doors of all mech. parts & a few more bits in the engine bay. Oh! and I need to drop the gearbox out.

congratulations Mart, she looks like an excellent project.

I was reading a book on panel beating last night by a reputable author who stated that paint stripper shouldn't be used to clean a body back to bare metal. Obviously, that is what I did so I read on, seems it is best to rub the car back to remove the top layer of colour only, leaving the primer, undercoat and some colour on the areas that are still sound. The argument was that if the metal is still good and the paint still adheres properly, it is just an added expense and effort to do a bare metal respray. He also made the point that removing every trace of stripper has to be done meticulously. He was adamant that there was no need to get back to bare metal.

I'm going to follow the advice when it comes time to respraying project #2 and save the time and hassle of paint stripping and the cost of primer/putty on areas that don't need it.

Not that I'm telling you, the master of dolly restos, how to go about sorting VHK !

thanks for the photos and inspiration to crack on with my own backlog. :)

All TW vin plated cars had the commission number in the boot gutter. Change over build date was VA finished on 31 August '79, TW started on 01 September '79
