Made a start on my Sprint restoration today and made a few interesting discoveries. I knew the car had no chassis plate, but it appears that the car has been reshelled at some time in the past. I am guessing that it was not a Sprint shell that was used because from memory there should be a mounting bracket for the brake bias valve just in front of the rear axle which is not there. The shell was originally red (Carmine?) and it has been badly painted white, which is what it says on the logbook. The vinyl roof is not original, but I think the vinyl on the D posts is, so the shell may have originally come from a 1500HL or 1850.
I have taken the engine out and the gearbox was in the boot anyway so I can make a start on those. The main job is to repair the front of the floor which is missing basically! The previous owner has made a start by repacing one of the chassis rails and has provided new parts for the floor pans and the other chassis rail. The transmission tunnel has hole on both sides, I put a note in the wants section of the forum, but have had no response so I guess they are rare.
There is something not quite right about the heater motor so I don't know what is going on there. I have also noticed that the front seats seem to be from a left had drive car because surely the recline levers should be on the outside, when the height adjustable seat is on the right hand side?
Apart from the floor, the body is reasonably solid if a bit tatty. The front wings look fairly new. The trouble is that now I have started working on it, I just want to drive it so I will have to sit down and work out a plan.

Re: First Sprint Since 1985
good job, great start.
That heater blower doesn't look like a dolly one to me. But I'm not an expert on all models.
The extra hole in the (left ?) side of the tunnel might be useful if it is in the correct position to give access to the clutch slave cylinder, makes bleeding it a bit easier. I fitted a plate with self securing screws on my tunnel to give access.
good luck, looks like a great project.

Hello and.......
Welcome to the forum Keith.
As Stu said, the heater blower is not correct.
I am sure a wanted advert on here will turn one up for you.
Reshelling Sprints used to be quite common I suspect?
It is possible to buy a new commission plate.
Whatever it may have been matters not, you have a good base for a restoration.

Thanks for your replies guys. I am going to investigate the heater further before I replace it.
On a different subject, as I have now joined the TDC how do I get my status changed from future member?
