Uprated alternators - Alun will know this straight away....

#1 Post by David6214 »

I found a metro alternator type 127 something in the garage today. Is it ok to fit on the dolly, I ask as one of mine had an austin rover one with the type 127 something on it (I think its 4d or 40 or something at the end). I still have that kicking around somewhere.

Thanks

If the plug fits its fine...
Make sure the pulley size is the same-ish as the dolly one so it doesnt spin too fast or slow...
Slightly higher rated that the 18ACR but not a problem

Should be OK. However, later Metro's had the 'poly v groove' belt so if you have to change the pulley don't be surprised if the pulley of your ACR doesn't fit. IIRC the A127 had a different size pulley shaft so you might need the pulley of a Montego or Sierra.

Ona Sprint If you use a Montego pulley you need a 850mm belt, if you use a Sierra pulley you can keep the std Sprint 838mm belt

Thanks for this chaps. I have belts coming out of my ears so bound to have one that fits.....maybe worth bearing in mind for others. I think I paid £125 for the whole metro and sold the 1.3 engine and box to a mini person, minus the alternator....gotta be worth breaking metros, easy to work on but still a loathsome car!

the mini? yes I reckon it was chuffed to bits, gutless before the swap. Lets face it its a common swap. So much easier to do than a sprint into another triumph shell!!
