1980 Dolly Sprint

#1 Post by Alilemonade »

Hi I'm new to this forum. I've just purchased a Dolly Sprint 1980, having previously owned a 1981 1300 which was held together with spit and a very robust 1973 1500. Are there disadvantages to later models in terms of build qualities? My latest purchase has been completely restored and I'll keep it in the garage and treat it gently but are there any things to be wary of?

The built quality seems to be better the earlier the car.

I find the fixings (nuts and bolts) are of a far superior quality on earlier cars to those on later (1976 onwards) cars. All the ones on my '75 car have come apart, on my '76 car they normally rounded off or simply sheared.

That would explain why all the bolts round or sheer on my Dollys then! ...they're all late.

I know how frustrating that can be Dan. A simple job can turn into a marathon when suddenly you find the head of the bolt lurking in the inside of the socket. Then begins the task of finding a suitable replacement. ](*,)
