Took a leaf out of Mark's book & took a load of stuff to my local plating company a couple of weeks ago, got it all back today zinc passivated, all nice & shiny, not bad for £40

Unfortunately it doesn't remove any pitting from previous corrosion but should stop any further corrosion in the future.

A modified / TR7 Sprint rear head plate with coolant take off IIRC, claimed to aid coolant flow, never got round to trying it myself

Correct, I need to look back at my pictures to see how it was plumbed in, from memory there is a T piece in one of the heater pipes..

No don't think so only TR7 Sprint engines, I don't know if mine is original or has been modified, it's a good job though

Dan, there were a very small number of TR7s that left Speke or Canley (don't know which factory) with Sprint engines. That's the head plate Malcolm was referring to. Fitting a Sprint engine in a TR7 is quite a popular engine conversion because it is cheap, easy to do (not much different to an engine swap) and gives the TR7 a bit more power. I've helped out with one such conversion which involved carrying over a few parts from the TR7 lump plus a few of the unique TR7 Sprint parts such as the exhaust manifold.

Following an article you wrote for DM some years ago Malcolm where you stated the coolant is hottest at the back of the cylinder head,
I fitted a hose tail to the transfer plate of my 1850 to supply the heater directly from the head and bingo,
you do indeed get much more heat from the heater :D .

However since then I have converted the 1850 to run using Evans waterless coolant and now think that the hot spot in the back of the head is eliminated or reduced,
the heater is not so good now but still better than standard.


Much easier than converting to the bigger heater matrix a la Reliant Scimitar :) ..........

Offside rear door built, Mark you have to fit the weather strips after the glass is in as the chrome stip that holds the quarter light in has to be angled to get the glass in, this would be very difficult with the weather seal in place.

Started on the front doors, the small vinyl covered triangle inserts were rusted, so I have recovered the outsides in carbon fibre wrap, there also have rivnuts fitted for the wing mirrors.

I used black silicon sealant to fit the inserts

I can't take the credit for the mirrors, the guy who built the car in the 80s fitted them, see the article on the first page of this thread

Your plated parts look the business. I picked up a box load more this morning. I'd dropped them off a fortnight or so ago to a man who thought I'd given him various bits of scrap, sometimes quite rusty metal. Even he was surprised how well they came out.

Offside front lights fitted, took a lot of cleaning & polishing. Just got to get some new screws for the indicators
