Cheers Pete.
I really want to crack on with it, it's just work & family commitments keep getting in the way!
Have you decided on a colour for yours yet?

I know the feeling. Long hard slog. I think my proposed colour and the colour of your car would go quite well!

I do, especially as it cost me over £100.lazeruspete wrote:does anyone ever look after their trolley jack?

Great work Tony. I've been following your resto closely. It's gonna be a good'un when you've finished.

Cheers Mart yes it's coming together nicely, the rear doors are a bit of a pain to get right, funnily enough the offside rear door I replaced & is a really good fit, but the nearside is original to the shell & I can't get it to fit aswell, but I guess they never fitted that well from the factory!

Re: MSO 662P
These gaz shocks are really good and i had them for about 100.000km and are still ok. The only thing is that the lower poly bushes are crap. I now use avo front with a lower uniball. The tube where the bush is in was worn because of grinding in the upper balljoints. The last few km i did put a piece of waterhose between the balljoint and lower shockmount so there was no metal contact but maybe you can put something similar inbetween for precaution. And spray some anti corrosion around the adjuster because they can go stuck due to water and stuff or tape the lower part in so that nothing can penetrate in area where the adjuster goes into the shock.

Thanks for the advice, I did notice that the lower bush on the front struts (black poly) didn't seem as good as the one fitted to the rear strut (purple poly).
I will keep an eye on it although the cars only going to be used at the weekends during the summer, although in Britain being used in the summer doesnt mean dry use only!

Re: MSO 662P
Rebuilt the waterpump over the last couple of mornings in between family get togethers, just got time to post this before yet another family lunch!
I used a rebuild kit from Tony Hart Stag Spares
The pump was striped & cleaned, then the new bearing was drifted onto the shaft & circlip fitted:

Then the shaft assembly had to be pressed into the brass cage, I found a box spanner cut in half was perfect to hold the cage

I packed the bearing with grease as per the wiki suggestion then fitted the oil seal

Then fitted the water flinger

Then pressed in the new top graphite seal & fitted the new O ring

Finally fitted the 2 new O rings to the outside of the cage

I will fit the impellor once the pump is fitted into the block, as per the wiki so I don't damage the graphite seal. I had the bottom of the impellor machined to a smooth finish for a good seal, hopefully.

Re: MSO 662P
Interesting that you have a new seal but its a graphite one.
Most of the kits I've had recently have an internal seal that doesnt seal on the impeller face.
Job looks good....glad the wiki was of use.
I've never been convinced by the oil seal just push fitting in the brass cage either, but thats how it goes.

Re: MSO 662P
Yes Wiki very useful, plus good instructions sent with the kit from Tony Hart, although he says fit the impellor before fitting into the block, which I did on the last pump I rebuilt (before I read the Wiki) & it was fine.
This time I am going with your method as the brass cage was a very tight fit in the block & was difficult to remove, so I guess it is going to be tight going back in.
I was a bit unsure about the oil seal whether it was fully home as you can't be too heavy handed with it as it could be damaged, I had another fully built pump to hand which I used as a reference.
Cheers

Hi Dan,
Can't remember where I got them from as it was about 15 years ago, but I think they are Minator which are Minilite copies. They are 15" & about 7" wide. Here are some pictures of the marks stamped on the rims.

I have had to take to complete lip off the top of the arch, plus I am getting another 3mm taken off the offset to ensure they don't rub.

Cheers
Tony
Just noticed the fit of that door is terrible!
