I have emailed a picture & description over to Jigsaw just to let them know. This is an enlarged downpipe so not standard so I am not bothered about a bit of fettling to make it fit, also I don't know the history of the work that has been done to the exhaust manifold, maybe it has been machined in the past.

Had a nice email back from Jigsaw thanking me for my feedback, it is not a problem they have had in their workshop, but they will check in future, so could be down to my car?

Has anyone else on here fitted one of these downpipes? Any clearance issues?

yes

and no problems. Had a local engineering shop enlarge the ports on the original exhaust manifold.

You are seeking some comment.

I cannot comment directly on the jigsaw exhaust system you have fitted but I am prepared to tell you of my experiences.

You show an excellent photo looking down the back of the engine and showing the flange and top pipe of the down pipe. And showing the how close the down pipe is sitting just in front of the heat shield.

I bolted that heat shield onto the bulkhead rather than riveted it, so that if and when it is necessary to remove the head or remove the downpipe while the engine is in the car then by unbolting and removing that heat shield first it will allow the downpipe to drop off the studs, if studs and brass nuts are used to attach the downpipe to the manifold. Gives a lot more space in that area to wriggle the downpipe around.

I presume you will also be reattaching the support bracket which comes off the side of the gearbox and which supports the downpipe at the junction where it is clamped to the exhaust pipe. Failure to do so puts a lot of strain on that flanged manifold downpipe joint and strain on the manifold to head mounting bolts. I have had an exhaust fracture (on another vehicle) at that flange.

Jonners has mentioned other suppliers of exhausts. I can only say that the Rimmers made sports exhaust on my car is excellent, fitted without any problems and is much quieter than I had expected and indeed hoped. Perhaps Jonners is referring to yet another party.

Thanks for your comments Robert, good idea about the heat shield, as you can see I don't have studs on the manifold so I don't have to clear the studs when fitting the downpipe.

The exhaust bracket is away at the powder coaters at the moment I will definitely be fitting it. The gearbox is now leaking oil where I have removed the bracket so I will need to use some sealant when I refit it.

I too have a rimmers sports exhaust which came with the car, but it is not in great condition & is still in one piece as I could not separate it, so not sure what I an going to do, I might make up my own, I quite fancy a side exit.

Today's delivery, braided clutch hose made by Stevson Motors, I sent them my old one as a pattern.

Hopefully be able to fit it at the weekend if the slave cylinder bracket comes back from powder coating.

A Sprint cluch is difficult to bleed at the best of times, with the bleed nipple BELOW the entry port, I would guess it will be downright impossible!

This is looking magnificent Tony, you've made superb progress since I collected that engine and 'box from you last year.

Anyone know the best way to clean K&N filters, also do you have to use their oil or can you use an alternative?
