MOT Pass

#1 Post by stokieat75 »

Took my 1500HL for its mot today and got a pass after a bit of a tweak of carb mixture nuts as it was running at 5.2% so all good really, pleased it passed with nothing major but yet again got an advisory for the n/s chassis leg having a slight dent in it due no doubt to the car being jacked up on the chassis leg, as i said when i picked the car up why is it put down when it is not possible to replace it easily it isn't corroded at all anyway.
I did tighten the wheel bearings up though to prevent a failure in that respect. So will slacken them off when i service the car next week.

That's the tester being picky with the chassis leg dent, I wouldn't worry about it if its solid.

Congrats on the pass and well done on keeping a proper engined dolomite on the road

Cheek really given that the dent was probably caused by an ignorant MoT tester jacking it up...

Poor guy, he passed your car and gave you advice about a dent in the car's chassis! Just like he was supposed to!
Now he and "his type" (those that make sure we're all safe from our cars and each others) have been tried and convicted of malicious messages and every dint in every chassis that ever there was!
Give the poor bloke a chance!

I do the same, saves a lot of arguing.

Is a dent mentioned in the test spec? I'm happy to be corrected but I don't recall seeing it. If it hasn't weakened the vehicle and isn't corroded I'd be surprised it needed mentioning. Mine is far from square and I would assume it has been for some time, looking back at the test history it has never been mentioned by at least 4 garages.

I didn't mean to wound you and I doubt the mot guy did either.

While I heartilly concur with the sentiments behind the MoT test I resent the followng...

Testers who cant tell running wheel bearing tolerances from excess play.
Testers who test play in inner track rod ends when the car is jacked up
Testers who jack up dolomites on the chassis rails because they cant be arsed to move the jack to the subframe.
Being effectively charged for an emissions test I dont need.

Failing the emissions test because the tester imposed the wrong limits....

Grrr...

I've managed to educate my local testers to be fair and they are reasonable now, so I stay with them.
But many are not....and in the past have wasted my time and cost me money and been inconsistent too....
When the Z is back on the road I wont need them anymore....

A tester can write an advisory for anything even if its not on the check list. But this one would be coverinv his arse as a chassis leg is structual.

The MOT tester I use is quite mature in both age and outlook. He trained on Triumphs as an apprentice, and is appropriately flexible, eg the floppy - when - cold wheel bearings, and twisting the mixture screw a bit for the gas test and "so long as the brakes are equally useless..." Also knowing my annual mileage he gives me informal Advisories - which start "in about 3 years, you will need to..."
If anyone has need of him, he is between Epping & Harlow in Essex- please contact me
