Hi Paul
I gather this is the same Paul that is discussing converting a newly acquired auto Sprint project to manual...

Here are my thoughts....

The auto Sprint is not as nice as a car as a manual o/d one IMHO and the main reason for saying this is that its too low geared and fussy
at anything over 60 mph. If you just want to use it on short town runs then it works well enough as an auto.

The 1850 auto on the other had works very well as a car because of the extremely good torque converter match to the 8v torque curve and becuase
the long 3,37 diff gives and nice relaxed cruise - higher than direct top and a bit lower than o.d on a manual one.

The Sprint isn't quite such a good match as its a bit flatter in the mid range torque wise and more power at the top. The diff ratio is still 3.45, which may be ok for outright performance but doesnt make for good cruise....this is what o/d gives you - the best of all worlds.

To swap an auto to a manual is doable but is quite a lot of work....

You will need - flywheel, clutch, adaptor plate, gearbox, tunnel, tray, carpet, gearstick, propshaft, cross member and mounting and gearbox mounting bracket.
Clutch hydraulics - master and slave - and peddle and box.

I will send you a PM with prices of any bits I can put together.

Note from Admin: sadly Jon passed away in February 2018 but his humour and wealth of knowledge will be fondly remembered by all. RIP Jonners.

So , after two weeks of alun delivering the sprint, the work completed is as follows.

All interior fitted , all rear end has been put back . rust patches have been ground back and prep work started , near side front lights connected .

Vinyl roof cleaned and treated . All windows cleaned, all top half of the car has been t cutted and waxed with an amazing finish.

Jobs to do .

Source exhaust system, connect prop shaft , welding to be done , buy a battery , fit other starter motor , connect fuel tank and oil cooler for auto box.

Sort engine out .

Have got photos of the car with work completed but unsure how to post on here .
