It's not really on the cheap. Only cheap by comparison to a new one (circa £350?).
I got mine s/hand for £60 from the guy who I bought the car from. It just needed the fittings which are literally a few pounds. It still has the Rimmer Brothers stickers on it! It was almost completely unmarked when I threw it behind the shed!! Not fitted it yet as you can guess so don't know of any pitfalls
Put an ad in the Wanted section of the forum and check eBay regularly. Also check the club HOMEPAGE too.
I'm sure a member will have one for sale somewhere but be prepared to travel or wait to meet at a show

Well that was a busy couple of days
Gave the whole car a good cleaning inside and out with liberal amounts of pressure washer being used on the underside only to find....its all pretty sound! I am also now a patron of Mr Sheen which cleaned up the interior a treat and made all the shiny bits, shiny again.
As for the engine, things are still not well. The cylinders appear to be totally seized and are currently soaking in a mixture of plus-gas and diesel in hope that they loosen up. The front, drivers side of the bay near the radiator is also much rustier than I first imagined from a combination of leaking radiator and battery acid which will need to be fixed before the MOT.
On a plus side, with a new battery in, the majority of the cars electronics are working perfectly with the exception of the hazard flashers which probably need a new relay. Was extremely surprised when even the fan heater kicked in and fired an interesting mixture of dust and mould into my face - the joys of car ownership
Have just posted a thread in the wanted section that I can tell will be getting larger by the day.

Paint code 23 is Sienna (see this link), however because the paint is old the chances are it has faded a bit. The best thing to do is take a bit of the paint (a rust flake or a chunk of filler that's fallen out is ideal) to a paint matching service. (most local garages will know of one)
About time for an update I feel
After too many weeks of tinkering, have finally declared the original engine borked, so the plan has been changed to fitting a tr7 lump instead. According to Adam this is going to be a piece of cake, so why not?
Got this small parcel in the post the other day:

Overall, I'm pretty happy with it. Has done only 66,000 miles in its lifetime, complete with spin-off oil filter, and has fairly recently had the head off and given a full service by a garage. Only downside is the engine that "is very clean with no oil leaks" appears to be in desperate need of a new rear oil seal
Irritating but as I'm changing the sump and flywheel this isn't too much of a problem.

All of the welding around where the battery had leaked is now complete and just waiting for a proper coat of sienna brown paint which I picked up yesterday (thanks again for the help with that). It needed a much larger repair around the box section than originally thought but is easily solid enough to pass the MOT now.

Going to hopefully get the engine in this week and then everything should start coming together again.
