Re: converting 1300 dash to hl/sprint dash---help
Yes you can repin the multiplug but you need to be clever about a few of the warning lights. Mostly you can just observe the colour code.
You can use a thin tube to force back the wiring ping latches so the pins push out on your HL dash loom plug.
An old BIC ballpoint pen refill does the job. (Alun Nicholas tip)
The wire for the fuel warning light is missing from the 1300 dash loom, but may well be there from the left hand dash plug back to the sender for example.
2 of the connectors are pretty much as HL for the wiper stalk and indicators/beam/horn.
Its easier to repin than swap the loom for an HL one. Nice evenings work....and very satisfying to get it right. I did Nathans green one which is now in S Wales.

Re: converting 1300 dash to hl/sprint dash---help
Bit of trial and error but you have to make the wires on the 3 HL dash plugs fit into 2 plugs as per the 1300 dash to match the 1300 loom on the other side.
Maybe a plan to get some spare 1300 connectors so you dont have to dismantle yours, which you can use as a colour match pattern.
The HL one is more complex because of the warning light cluster and extra instruments. Some bits like the heated rear window are a bit of an afterthought on the 1300 too.
I may still have some spare 1300 plugs so if I can find them I'll PM you bit dont rely on me too hard,.

Re: converting 1300 dash to hl/sprint dash---help
Red is for the lighting circuit....instrument bulbs that come on with the side lights.
Blacks are all earth.
The pale green ones are instrument feeds and the darker more bluey greens are for stuff wired from the ignition - like indicators.
You wont have a signal feed for the rev counter in the 1300 loom in the car. You may need to run one from the coil.
Blues are usually head light related - main beam warning.
Purples are to do with hazard feed - non ignition fed but fused supply.
I'll hunt for the plugs but you can still buy them on ebay if I cant find them.

You will also need to swap the heater unit as they're different between the flat dash cars and the curved dash ones.

Re: converting 1300 dash to hl/sprint dash---help
During the early-1980s, I substituted an early-model Triumph Dolomite 1850 dashboard into my 1974 Triumph Toledo. I did NOT need to change the heater unit, but I did need to change the dashboard heater-control levers.Toledo Man wrote:You will also need to swap the heater unit as they're different between the flat dash cars and the curved dash ones.

Re: converting 1300 dash to hl/sprint dash---help
They are different because the curved dash cars have a centre vent which the flat dash cars don't have. As Nigel has said it is possible to keep the flat dash heater and have it working with a curved dash.

Re: converting 1300 dash to hl/sprint dash---help
Whilst I am refurbishing, rejuvinating and further upgrading my 1974 Triumph Toledo 1300, I shall substitute a late-model Triumph Dolomite 1500HL heater unit, which I presently have disassembled and am also refurbishing. Hopefully, it should be better than new when I've finished!Toledo Man wrote:They are different because the curved dash cars have a centre vent which the flat dash cars don't have. As Nigel has said it is possible to keep the flat dash heater and have it working with a curved dash.

There are six sheet-steel parts screwed or rivited together, making up the casing, some of which comprise parts which are spot-welded together, there are also two internal pivoted dampers, the larger one of which has a foam seal on both surfaces, which become exceedingly rusty, leading to deep pitting and perforations.
One thing I noticed was that the casing was full of leaves and other debris, so I must contrive some form of inlet-air filtration; possibly using a block or sheet of reticulated nylon foam, in the inlet to the booster fan, or even beneath the bonnet grille.
