Spice up my Sprint

#1 Post by DutchSprint »

Hi,

I'm the proud owner of a restored '73 Dolomite Sprint. I'm driving it for three years now since I restored it, and am looking into 'spicing up' the engine. I'm planning to do a rebuild during winter time. I bought a pair of Webers and sourced an intake manifold on this forum (thanks Dolly-Nut). Next step would be looking for a cam (STR091 would be good choice according to Dolly-Nut). What are other 'tweaks' I should consider? Are there things I should pay attention to? I'm new to this, and curious what you guys think. I posted a picture of my car also.

BodgerBen and Mart Mart are worth asking as they are both knowledgeable and approachable.....I have tried to get an STR0091 and have struggled to source one so have ended up with a TT10106 from Jigsaw which is pretty similar.

By way of example, Mart very kindly posted this chart comparing cam specs.....

I would deffo port the head to suit the inlet manifold and for me personally, because I love the throttle response, lighten and balance the bottom end.

To aid breathing I would put a bigger down pipe on and a free flowing exhaust.....that's pretty much it i guess and would think this'll sort you out!
Come and see some pretty shoddy, slow driving of a really well prepared competition Sprint here!

Is the STR091 hard to get because of scarcity? Or is it just very expensive? What have you payed for the TT10106? Seems quite similar according to your spec sheet.

£310 including p&p and vat.

Scarcity basically though I guess Newman cams might be able to offer one now?
