Tradesmen?

Tradesmen over the road ( I use the term euphemistically) have been block paving a neighbour's driveway.

I make no comment on the quality our otherwise of the job but what concerns me is the fine layer of paving block dust that
now covers not juts my 3 cars but every other car in a 50ft radius. They did a LOT of cutting.

Now I'm an easy going neigbourly kind of guy but I'd just spent the previous 3 days polishing one of said cars for a wedding.
A knock on the door saying "sorry mate we are having to make a lot mess you might want to park down the road" would have done the job.

So when I asked what they intended to do about the mess I was told oh the rain will wash that off. Yeah right....I was livid.

So not wanting to get lairy I just walked away. Is my neighbour answerable for his tradesmen or do I just lump it?

What would you all do?

Tell the tradesmen or the neighbour that you're taking the car to the local valeting place to have their mess cleaned off it and its going to cost £40 to have it done. Get the cash off them and then drive to your local Albanian carwash and get it done for a fiver, sorted.

I had issue like this a few years ago whilst parked at work. 'Tradesman' coated everyone's car in fine dust so collectively we complained and we were provided with £25 to get the car valeted. I pocketed the money and cleaned it myself so I was quids in.

Your neighbour is not liable for the tradesman he or she is using but it is distinctly un-neighbourly to allow them to make such a mess.

The tradesmen have a duty of care not to release any harmful substance that could cause nuisance or damage. Unfortunately what they have done is a civil rather than criminal offence, so being uneducated arses who are unaware of this they will just give you two fingers until you bring civil proceedings against them.

Most folk wouldn't be bothered to do this, but I'd probably be bloody minded enough to seek loss and cost from them through money claim online whereby they receive summons for court proceedings; probably enough incentive for them to pay up. Get your neighbours to do it as well...or band together so its Residents of Gloucester Road vs Arse Driveways. I'm sure windows need cleaning and there were a few lines of washing that suffered too...

Quality block layers can do a good job with a guillotine, no need for disc cutters in that game.

My next door neighbour had the front of his house pointed recently and most of the dust landed on my cars. I made a throwaway comment on my way out to work, along the lines of "I hope you're going to wash my cars when you've finished" To my immense surprise, when I got home, he had! Didn't do a bad job either!

Bloke up the road 4 houses away parks 3 cars outside mine and none in front of his because his road is busier.

Park said cars on the neighbour's new blockwork drive, and don't insist on payment for the donated oil

Tempting as they seem to be away at the moment...

Dude was still about today so he agreed to jet wash my car for me....got the dust off anyway.
Didnt take that kindly to the health and safety lecture I gave him about silicosis and son being an A & E doctor either.

Oh well you cant tell some people....

Cant see him collecting his pension or being around for his grand kids.

We had our roof re-tiled last year. After the workmen had finished I spent the next day washing my neighbours' cars. It seemed only right!

Not just silicosis but from what I hear it's now illegal to cut blocks / slabs without having a water fed cutter
