Sprint Jigsaw Puzzle Resto

Thought I may as well start it off.

The Sprint is a shell at the moment with wheels attached. The body needs a small amount of cleaning up and ultimately painting.

There is a small perforation just above the windscreen which will be treated and filled. I then plan to tackle the engine bay first so that we can get the engine in (which will free up some front garden space). I will then tackle the front inner wings which are solid but just want to keep them that way.

The nose panel just needs a couple of welds to keep it in place and then it can all be lined up and secured.

Photos will follow when I get over to the car in a couple of weeks.

Well a few weeks turned into a few months. Happily though the car is now in a barn and awaiting some attention which may be as quickly as next weekend.

Photo's have been taken and will at some point, hopefully appear.

Now this was happening yesterday for a while until we were gently admonished for using the storage space as a workshop. After some chatting the agreement was made that we could trundle the Sprint outside of the barn to work on and a space was cleared for this. We helped with an MGF that they had there and happiness was achieved. Thanks hugely to Colin and my MG ZT T owning mate Gary for having a go with the polydisks. Typically the battery on my camera died before I could get some shots of the engine bay. Suffice to say that the rust in the bay was all surface stuff which came off easily to reveal super solid and shiny metal.

The leading edge of the roof showed up a couple of small holes which will be filled. Along the trailing edge there was some rust rash but no holes. The front floor pans will need cleaning up and assessing. A small patch will need repair in the boot area and that is it. Nothing more drastic than that. More to follow in a couple of weeks.

It's very orange now but who knows what colour it will be when done. Won't be orange.

Another vote to keep it orange Ken.

Ken, are you sure this is a Sprint? The front subframe visible in a couple of those shots is an OHV type!

Steve - Are you looking at that additional bracket on the rear of the subframe - sprint subframes don't have a bracket. A easier way to tell whether its a sprint shell is to look for the four holes which secures the rear load sensor valve which is underneath the back seat.

Indeed it is the OHV type subframe but with modified engine mount brackets......
I studied the photos because my first thought was the same as your's Steve :) .

I studied the photos because my first thought was the same as your's Steve :) .

Even with modded engine mounts, a Sprint lump won't go on an OHV subframe without removing all the metal behind the rear body mounts, the bellhousing and the bottom of the gearbox won't clear the OHV frame's rear extension.

PS, I've got a good spare Sprint subframe Ken, I think you're going to need one!

Don't fret guys, this is a genuwine Sprint. The subframe was just to get it rolling IIRC. I'll come a knocking if needed Steve, cheers mate.
