Toledo indicator stalk has crumbled...!!! HELP!

#1 Post by grifterkid »

Hello folks...

Driving home from work this evening my indicator stalk decided it'd had enough and decided to crumble and fly off with the slightest touch of my finger...!!!

The plastic part is now in two pieces and the screw-in end is obviously separate so I'm hoping I can try and glue things together and get a temporary fix whilst I try and source a new indicator stalk...

One thing I need to know though is what kind of spring(?) I'm looking for in my cabin as that has obviously shot off somewhere...!!!!!!!!!!!!

If anyone does have a Toledo indicator stalk they'd like to sell to me that'd be great too

Many thanks to you all in advance...

I've still got that one I offered you many moons ago. You can have first dibs on it.

Being a late model Toledo won't this be the same as the Dolomite one?

Best to take a picture of the existing one to save any confusion and delay I reckon.

My Toledo is a 1976 model so I assume the stalk is the same as the basic 1300/1500 Dolomite of the same year(ish)...

It has the indicators (up/down), full-beam (push), full-beam flash (pull) and the horn (push in at the end) functions on it. The plastic bit at the end split in two and then the screw in part flew off and I assume there is a spring (can anyone please confirm this?!) that is hiding somewhere.

I have glued the plastic part (with the 'logos' on) together and that seems solid so I am going to try and screw in the end part and see how it goes but I'm sure there needs to be a spring in there so the horn push is not always in contact with the horn bit inside...?!

I'm not sure there is a spring, from what I remember from my old knackered indicator stalk, the springing action seemed to be a combination of the plastic and brass parts, with no spring. However I never had it full apart, so there could be one hidden in there somewhere.

Ash, if you have a later type indicator stalk you will also have a wiper stalk. This what mine looks like.

This is the one off my 1974 Toledo.

You can have first dibs. I'll have a look in the loft to make sure I still have it.

I have tried to put it all back together but there is no 'resistance' at the end and when the plastic part slides down the horn connection is made and the horn ruddy goes off...!!!

With regards to my 'stalk' I have the 1974 type pictures and not the one above it as my wiper controls are on the dash... My indicator stalk is exactly the same as the 1974 one you have there Toledo Man...

I've dug it out of the loft, cleaned it up and replaced the tape. You still have first dibs if you want it.
