Broadspeed Sprints

#1 Post by TrustNo1 »

How many road legal Broadspeed sprints were made and does anyone have details of the survivors?

Not sure, but Practical Classics ran a group test of Broadspeed cars a few years ago, including the Dolomite, and (I think, and could be wrong) an Opel Manta and Capri

Good read indeed, I never knew they were involved with BMC mini in the early days- imagine finding one of the fibre glass "coupe" minis for sale!

I must admit to not knowing there were Broadspeed cars made for the road.

There are a couple in Australia, maybe three but all race cars. The Philip Larmour car is for sale:

There is a very interesting thread here about the fate of the Broadspeed and Gerry Marshall prepared cars that raced in the 70s including contributions from Gerry's son. The thread is quite old now so most of the photo and other links no longer work.
http://tentenths.com/forum/showthread.php?t=83851

On the first page there is mention of a Broadspeed car imported to Western Australia and I thought I had heard sometime ago of a third now in Queensland.

Almost certain there are none and have never been any in NZ.

the tentenths thread makes fascinating reading. it boggles the mind to think where the old sprints are hiding, tucked away in garages throughout Europe and further afield.

Hi Geoff. I knew about the Aussie BSpeeds but thought there was only the one off road car.

I did 2 years ago and the same. Every magazine what does have a racing of rallying dolomite in it i have and sometimes there are some surprises like this in it also. Just cut the pages out that were interesting.

The question how do you know what to collect? Many years ago i made a list of entrances of races and rallies where dollies did compete, most '70s. Then you buy the well known automags that did a review of those events and hope there's something dolomite in it. About 25% had not. But in the end you have a nice collection of all dolomite motorsport reviews.
