Advice on jacking points

#1 Post by alolympic »

I am now going through the long process of stripping the whole underneath of the car. I want to grind off any surface rust, prime, paint with epoxy mastic, then Dinitrol. All with the remit to keep the car solid as long as possible.
So far, the only rot to be found are the jacking points. The sills are absolutely solid up to the jacking points, it which point they have just dissolved.
The inner faces of the box section are solid but the one face is shot.
Would people advise just getting a new plate welded in?

Classic stress induced corrosion.

Plate will be fine. I never use jacking points....trolley jack under whatever.

Unless you drill extra holes you cannot spray cavity wax into the jacking point area very easily. When you've fashioned your repair you should be able to drill some holes inside the car to gain access to this area both front and rear.
