Hmmm.......

It all seems a bit crazy to me.

If anybody has a copy of September's Triumph Torque it may be worth checking that I've got it right.
According to the article in the current Practical Classics magazine, Alan,
LED bulbs are not permitted in any fog lamp (irrespective of the vehicle's age, whether or not it has Type Approval makes no difference).

Indeed, it does all seem rather crazy or is it up to the manufacturers to ensure their products meet the requirements....?

This is a classic example of technology leaving rules and regulations behind. A lot of cars have LED high level brake lights which are legal if they're the original specification. I don't know if aftermarket ones would be legal. The rules only apply to external lights so there wouldn't be a problem fitting LEDs to the interior light, instrument illumination and autobox selector illumination on "our" cars. I was reading Car Mechanics the other day and it is actually legal to replace the entire light cluster with an LED one. Unfortunately, this can only be done with the modern cars. Also, LED DRLs can be retrofitted.

Just fitted a pair of LEDS to the car. Nice bright blue/white light. Better than the duller but warmer yellow'ish tinge of the original bulbs.

More likely to grab one's attention I think.

Not the best pic, sorry.

I should imagine also being a diode they are a bit less likely to act as a return alternative for the dodgy earth bullet
that makes the side lights flash when the indicators are supposed to.

I hope this isn't an excuse to neglect LWT Ken....:-)

Looks that way. I've never done that with any other cars I've had. LWT and Tessa, sheesh! :D

All I need now is Flipper, Snowdrop and Lemondrop et al.
