Angle Grinders

#1 Post by Mad Mart »

The big ends have just gone on my 4" (4½") angle grinder. It was only a cheapy but it was 900W. I know you get what you pays for but do any of you have recommendations for a sub £40 grinder?

I actually bought a £16 job from Argos yesterday and it lasted less than ten minutes. Got a refund.

I have an Einhell one that I got from Macces years ago.

I guess its a German cheapo, so maybe a look in Aldi or Lidl would be the story as its very good considering how
little it cost and I would gladly buy another tomorrow...

Haven't got one myself, but the Clarke contractor con115 seems to have decent reviews on machine mart and elsewhere. 1010w and a mighty 41p under budget.

Screwfix have a DeWalt 800w at a tenner off and now within budget if you like something half decent that people want to steal. A decent Bosch blue would be my choice, but it's £50 on screwfix.

Folkstone fixings who are in kent but do mail order through eBay do the makita 4 inch grinder which I have had for numerous years and now have the cordless version for roofing work for solar panels (corded gets abit dangerous on a roof) and they are superb and quite cheap. They sell under the name of ffx on eBay or on the phone direct highly recommend them.

I bought one from Aldi about four years ago for, I think, £18. It has never missed a beat. And they come with a three year no-quibble guarantee. Some great tools in Aldi from time to time.

Unfortunately anything bought 5 years ago that is still going strong wont be the same crap sold today under the same name/part number. Old stuff rules:)

I destroyed one of those trying to cut off the a steering lock on the dolly, which I stupidly lost the key for. Toughened steel, and it stood up to a cutting disc that would go through the Dollys body like it was nothing.

Can't recommend the grinder, but the steering lock was excellent.
