Inlet manifold leak

#1 Post by cleverusername »

Well technically the pipe to the brake servo. Tried to tune the carbs correctly using the lifting pin, and however rich I made the mixture, the engine dropped off with the pin lifted. Even I'm not that dopey, so I realised there must be a leak. Tried spraying WD40 in any potential locations, no effect. In the end simply running my hand down the servo pipe found a hole by the manifold.

Having no spare pipe, cut off the hole, refitted the pipe, and finally could set the mixture. So I have been running very lean for ages.

Hopefully I will be able to get the wretched things to work now.

The good thing is that it seems the hole was small so would only affect the tickover and not much bother at full throttle
