Rear view mirror malfunction

#1 Post by Jamesd »

My rear view mirror has fallen off because the plastic bracket that fixes to the roof of the car via two bolts has broken into two parts.

This plastic bracket seems to be no longer available.

I have seen new mirrors advertised on ebay as suitable for a Dolomite but at around £40 I wonder if anyone else has any bright ideas. I have looked at gluing the bracket together but realistically this will not take the weight of the mirror.

Theres thread on here showing the repair of the bracket. Have a search. When mine was split I noticed as the screws were tightened that the split got wider, leading me to think the roof where it fixes isn't flat.

Thank you.

I think I might buy a new drill before trying this - something sharp is probably better than and old blunt bit.

Alun, you were thinking of the quarterlight clips.

Yes that's right TM, after nearly 30 years playing with dolomites, those two parts still confuse me.

I thought I'd lost all of the silvering from the back of my rear view mirror a while back, but blow me, I'd only gone and bolted a quarterlight assembly to the top of my 'screen in error!
