Dolomite 1850 hl wheel bearing noise

#1 Post by tractor boy »

Hi its tractor boy. My 1850 hl 1977 is making what is best described as a wowling noise not allthat loud from the gearbox area. It is speed related and the same if the overdrive is engaged or coasting in neutral. There is no vibration and moving the steering wheel makes no appreciable difference but it does sound like a wheel bearing. I have sprint wheels and tyres fitted. Any suggestions. Thanks tractor boy.

Release bearing. Does it go away when you dip the clutch?

No change when clutch is depressed or in neutral with clutch held down. Could it be centre bearing in propshaft? Thanks for your reply

Yes but the prop bearing normally hisses. Do the fronts first. Not a difficult job.

Could be the U/Js at the front of the prop?
