Gearbox support brkt...

#1 Post by shaunroche »

Could anyone post a picture please or inform me how the gearbox support cross member and gearbox mounting rubber, 218519 and TKC1041 go together?

Does the rubber mounting go in from the top or up from the bottom? Going down from the top leaves a gap underneath where the bolts go meaning there is a space to be squeezed together. Up from the bottom means the top of the bearing faces where the bolts go through is flush with the bottom of the cross member making a better fit.

The pics in all my books look like the former.

Confused!

Nice one Tony....that's the type of image I spent hours trying in vain to find!

Up and under it is then! Makes the most sense that!

Cheers!

Read the text Shaun.

The mount goes on the top side of the cross member. Fit the bracket with the long bolt to the overdrive and then thread the long bolt
through as you lift the cross member up into place.

Yep, Should've read further!

So is it correct then Jonners that there should be a slight gap underneath the metal tab where the bolts go and the top of the cross member?

There is on mine!

No it should fit flush...the metal edge of the rubbery bit.

Then the domed plate fits on underneath and tightens up the rubber with a big nut...

I dont think it matters which way round it goes front to back. I think its symetrical. Its supposed to be soft in bounce and more
resistant to twist.

There's a big space underneath putting it like you suggest Jonners....

No idea. It came in a box of bits with the car.

Does it look wrong?

Lol...now its upside down....

Do you have the domed rectangular plate with a hole in the middle? I think it may have some pips that locate in the smaller
holes either side of the big one.

That tightens the rubber up when you do up the retaining nut.
