Still i've ended up with a very rewarding car. Looks innocent enough from the outside but turns into a bit of a wolf when gunning it. Also sounds mental on full throttle through those useless cone filters. No regrets what so ever.

Hi all
A while since i gave an update so here goes.

Couple of years happy motoring then i took it off the road over winter for the following mods and upgrades

Engine - completely stripped, lightened bottom end, dynamically balanced, forged conrods, lightened flywheel, cometic head gasket. Rebuilt and dropped back in

Brakes - rear disc conversion with sprintspeed brackets, sierra cosworth rear calipers, fiesta mk3 discs - redrilled to correct pcd. Handbrake cables to suit.

Chassis. - Front subframe cross member redesigned and reinstated. It was originally removed to allow sump for redtop engine to fit.

Wheels - to accommodate rear disc conversion i went for a set of Team Dynamics 6.5*15" MGF wheels. These were fully refurbished and rear wheels had 4mm milled off the inside of the wheel face to bring the wheel into the body. Rear arches were trimmed a little to fit. 185/55/15 tyres fitted

Short shift - RetroPower short shift fitted to manta gearbox. Nice bit of kit.

Just needs MOT now and then back on the road.

I was thinking VW or Vauxhall tbh re: seats. They do look good though.

Bmw e30 325i Sport seats.

Comfy as hell.

I changed them from the original flat thingys, because i nearly exited the drivers door window when i went round a bend too fast...

Air box

Right then. Next mod on the redtop sprint is to make a bespoke air box to replace the awful cone filters currently on the car. I also need to reduce the intake noise as its disturbing the neighbors...

My plan is to make a box from rigid PVC using a proper plastic welder and PVC welding rods. As you can see from the photos the first cardboard attempt needs some work. Its a very awkward area to work with but I do have some depth below the intake manifold to make use of.
I will also relocate the servo with a new remote unit. This will probably go in the boot as i don't have any real space in the engine bay.

The cardboard box is calculated as being just over 7 litres in volume. The feed to the box will be from 2 60mm or 75mm cone filters ducted from the front of the car. I need two because the available space at the front of the air box will not house a 100mm diameter inlet. So one at the top and one at the bottom, just like the origial feed to the sprint filter housing!. 2*60mm should be fine to flow enough air for 220bhp.

Securing the box to the carbs? I'll use an original R1 airbox back panel which includes the integral ram pipes and fixing rubbers.

Anyway its a bit of a long term plan as I haven't got the remote servo yet. But i'll keep the updates coming.
