Just a thought...did I do the stud mod on yours? I fit a stud instead of a bolt on the overdrive adpator plate so you can fit the exhaust
support bracket without oil coming out. Worth doing...before the oil goes in. Use a stud with the same thread pattern and a copper washer
with some hylomar....then the bracket and a nut, plain and spring holds it all on. No leaks....
I cant remember if I did that to yours or not.

Previously in this thread viewtopic.php?f=4&t=29116 you might remember what a pig of a job I had fitting the Engine into the subrame using the Rimmer's supplied engine mountings?

Well, today I have dropped the bonnet onto the car and the engine oil filler is touching the underside of the bonnet......obviously all the subframe bushes etc. are new as is the engine steady bush and brkt and the latter isn't really adjusted yet.

I know the engine mtg brkts are fitted correctly, ie the right side and orientation, and that the rubber mtgs will only fit in one way, so, should I adjust the engine stay so that it pulls the engine down a bit, or am I trouble?

The rubber mounts will fit in any way round ie. they are symmetrical. I would not adjust the stabiliser arm to pull the engine down, something will give eventually. Something is fundamentally wrong here. Are you sure those rubbers aren't too wide. I think I gave you the dims. in the other thread.

That was my worry Mart.....I'll have to check when it comes back from final paint....I'm just wondering whether the gearbox mtg and rubber is put together correctly as if you drop the back of the gearbox down it will lift the height of the engine filler slightly.....how much space should there be approximately between the filler and the bonnet? 1/2"?

There are some pics about of the rear gearbox mount.

It sort of sits on top of the subframe but most of it pokes down through the square hole. Then a clamping plate
underneath squishes it all up...

Just to recap on the mounts - the brackets on the engine should be cutouts at the top. The exhaust side one stick out more.
The rubber bits on my car have settled such that the engine side sits lower on the drivers side than the subframe side.

If you dont have the rear subframe mounts done properly with the correct rubber spacer between the subframe and chassis rail at the back the subframe will be too close to the bonnet, which won't help.

Getting the car back this weekend so will reappraise everything a bit closer...With the bonnet correctly fastened on and it lifted up to its correct height there is clearance, but it all needs going over again: the subframe and engine bushes etc. are correct so I'll need to check the gearbox again.

Crap picture, but it does look remarkable in the sunshine....better pics to follow....will be giving the Vikings a run for their money!

It's back!

H u g e run along the front edge of the front panel, but apart from that, pretty pleased really!

Gone over the top with the photo editing, but you get the picture....now the fun stuff begins I guess!

I have the 9-5 radiator and am looking at the engine going hmmmmm. Does anyone have insight on fitting this 27" x 17" piece in my Sprint? Help!

I have used the 9-3 rad as have several others, I couldn't say if the 9-5 one is bigger (and can't measure mine at the moment) but the 9=3 one fits very nicely between the chassis rails, needing only some superfluous plastic trimming off the outside edges. I made up 2 "Z" brackets bolted under the front main rails to hold it up and one day i'll get around to making another couple for the top but the top hose holds it in place nicely!
Below are a couple of pics taken while I was rebuilding the front end which may help you, sort of like exploded diagrams. You may also notice that the rad is not square in the car, this is deliberate, to allow room for the bypass hose under the bonnet on the RH side. I know mine is a Toledo with a Vauxhall engine but the principal of fitting the rad is the same, the hole is the same size and shape and the hoses are in the same place.

Just been out and measured my spare new 9-3 rad and its 2 foot by 14.5 inches after necessary side trimming, so your 9-5 one is too big and won't fit a Sprint! Sorry!!!!
