Advice Required - 1850 Oil Pump Removal

#1 Post by Edin Dundee »

Well I've done it now!
Car in lock-up, removed the 4 bolts holding on the oil pump and I can't see how to get it off the engine - there's a steering rack in the way!
So now the car is immobilised. What are the options here?
Any and all advice gratefully received. :(

If you havent already, take the distributer out and the shaft that drives the pump from it, i think the pump itself only needs to drop an inch to be removed. If thats not enough youll have to remove the engine mount that side and jack the engine up.

Yep, exactly how i did it last time...
Dixzzy out, long nose pliers to extract the drive shaft, jack up the engine a couple of inches...

Forgive me if I'm stating the obvious, but you have removed the oil filter haven't you?
I once tried to save time by removing the pump with the filter in place-it wasn't happening.
I can usually do it without removing the distributor though.
