Urgent - Dolomite shifting location help needed

#1 Post by Purplebargeken »

Hi folks, we have a bit of a problem with the green Dolly that I have purchased. The car is at a garage in Ellesmere Port at the moment and has to be shifted by the end of next week at the latest.

The concern is that the council lift it, the garage cannot take it in.

We had transport arranged to pick up the Dolly, bring it to London, the LWT would then go to Manchester the same day. Annoyingly and unfortunately the guy doing the transporting has had problems with his truck and this is now being repaired and is unlikely to be ready in time.

We need some help getting the car from Ellesmere Port to Leigh near Wigan as an interim measure.

Is anyone able to help either with a towing dolly/A frame/flatbed or trade plates?

Cheers

Ken

The only thing that I have with a tow bar is the '65 Volvo Amazon Alun.

Not entirely sure about that :)

Now if I still had the Landie!!!!

Thanks for the offer my friend.

Try this site; https://www.shiply.com/couriers/ . They gave me some really good quotes last time I needed a car moving.

What about our very own "covcourier"? Doesn't he do transportation?

Stu has sold his trailer now.

Steve

PS, I towed a 4 wheel trailer, loaded with all manner of cars, all over the country with my Amazon estate. It never gave me a moments trouble! The week before I took it off the road for horrendous cam gear rattle, (210k miles) I went to London to pick up a Herald convertible and was on the M40 crossing the M25, 90mph in the outside lane cam and trailer rattling their brains out, flashing the Beamers and Mercs out of the way! Needless to say, it got me there and back without incident! When I stripped the engine, it turned out that the gears were not worn (though I replaced them anyway) but the big nut that secured the gear to the cam had come completely undone and was sitting in what I can only describe as a casting made for the purpose inside the timing cover. I must have covered the best part of 2000 miles with the engine in this state and this was not the only case of "above and beyond the call of duty" exhibited by this car, on another occaision, with the car loaded with tools and equipment and towing a trailer containing my engine crane and a Vitesse engine and gearbox, the badly worn clutch exploded in Maidehead. Despite the fact that, on inspection, the drive plate had NO lining material on the gearbox side and only about 1/3 of down-to-the-rivets lining on the engine side, the car got me and its load back to High Wycombe, uphill all the way!
Of all the cars i've owned and sold, this is the one I most regret and i'd have it back in a heartbeat!

LOL, maybe I should just stop wussing the Amazon.

Hopefully this will get moved to a temp garage tomorrow morning, a friend up there is going to sort it.

Seems like the transport bloke is in need of a new alternator for his Mitsubishi truck.

Thanks for the offers and suggestions everyone. :)
