1850 overdrive ? problem.

#1 Post by MIG Wielder »

Well, yesterday was not a good day for SWK. A 2nd intermittent problem developed on the way back. Two in one day is unheard of here ! We had just come off the M3 having done a steady 50mph in the roadworks section for many, many miles and after accelerating away from the lights the car was on the overrun for the next few hundred yards. At which point the revs dropped to a fast idle but road speed was maintained. It felt like the car was free-wheeling. Bringing the revs up again we accelerated as normal but easing off the throttle the revs dropped again. Switching the overdrive off and back on got rid of the problem.
But as with all intermittent problems they are bound to re-occur. I remember reading about a "one way clutch" in the overdrive.
Is this anything to do with the problem ?
Thanks ,
Tony.

I wouldnt expect this to be the one way clutch without it being accompanied by some pretty horrible noises.

If its the cone clutch it would slip on drive, not the over-run.

Still thinks its got the Perbury CVT fitted obviously.
