Valve Stem Oil Seals

#1 Post by Mad Mart »

I need a set for my track Sprint. Chris Witor has them for the T2000 but I wasn't sure if they would fit the Sprint valves. I emailed him and had this reply:-
I dont know, they are for 5/16” valve stem diameter
I've just measured some Sprint valve stems and they are 7mm. which is a tad under 5/16". Do you think I will be ok using these?
Sprintless for the first time in 35+ years. :boggle2: ... Still Sprintless.

Engines, Gearboxes, Overdrives etc. rebuilt. PM me.

Actually I'd forgotton something. Mini a series 1275 valve seals will fit. The a + engine has the little spring on top of the seal too, which is better, pre a+ didnt have the spring but will still fit. Cheap and plentiful- wish id known before I fitted mine

I now have two sets of oil seals, one set from Robsport and one set from Wood & Picket for the Mini.

What I found is that the mini ones had an ID of 6.9mm. which is the same diameter as the ones I removed from the head. The Robsport ones are 5.7 ID which hug the stem much better, obviously. So I opted to fit the Robsport ones.

If they hug too much the lubrication is too little. The seal should just seal and not clamp the valve.
