Do it yourself....

They only need a new diaphram and possibly needles and jets could be worn. All are easy to do.

The problem with bergs and why I tend to swap them for SU's is the diaphrams now available are not that
good rubber quality wise. Also the float valve is a mare to get at if it gets blocked and floods. On an SU the same fix
is 3 simple screws. On a berg the whole carb has to come off and then its 6 screws....and you loose all the file too.

By all means keep them for originality sake...but fit an inline fuel filter...

Cheers Jonners really appreciate that i like originality myself so plan to keep them, but there doesent Sound that much involved, perhaps ill read up about it! An in line fuel filter is a must though i agree. Reason i ask is the carbs are currently off whilst other things are done so i thought when they were off anyway...

The SU carb company in Salisbury remanufacture Stromberg spares including diaphragms, these being to a high specification.

They go under the name of Burlen Fuel Systems who have the rights to the SU name. As Ian has already said, they're located in Sailsbury. There's plenty of info on their website.

I have twin strombergs on my 1850 auto and I have managed to remove the float chamber with the carbs in situ, it does involve a bit of 'feel' but I use philips screw head with a 1/4 hex drive and use a 1/4 ratchet spanner to undo them, means working upside down but it can be done.

I agree with Jon that SUs are nice and simple.
