1850 Bottom End Colour?

Hi all hope we are well? My Dollys in the process of having its engine rebuilt and the garage are asking what colour I want the bottom end painted, can anyone confirm what colour they were from factory please? (1972/3) Thanks kindly in advance as always :-)

I've just had a look at the photo I took of Danny & Jeannette's 1500SE

It is difficult to tell but it looks like it was black gloss. I've also found these photos on the Rimmer Bros website.

OE engines were always black with bare ally head and silver painted rocker cover.
Oil filter cover was usually a turquiosey blue colour.

Anything else has been messed with except .....gold seal engines are painted.....you guessed it...gold

Engine enamel is usually a sort of dull gloss.
Sperex black engine enamel is as good an engine paint as I've used....

Halfords satin black engine enamel looks spot on!
