Well, since my last project is sort of terminated (and left me with a damaged engine) I decided to start a new topic. My friends allready dubbed my car the Frankenstein Sprint since it won't be so OEM anymore after this.
So here's the thing: I was kind of fed up with the reliability of the engine. I can think of all kind of reasons for the engine being untrustworthy, but I'm still in love with the looks of the car, so any any solution included keeping the car.
Then a great opportunity came up: I was offered a Ford I4 DOHC engine (N7a), originally from an Escort RS2000 16v. Why not give that a try? Since I want to keep it a kind of old-fashioned, I'm planning to replace the EFI with carbs. That way it's kind of the same way it was before, only with more recent technique and from a more reliable engine builder.
I collected the engine last Saturday and upcoming Saturday I will be at the local scrapyard to disassemble a MT-75 gearbox (Ford Sierra) to go with it.
So, new adventure and all, I look forward to keep you guys up to date and am curious if this is done before and what you guys think of it?

Re: Frankenstein Sprint (Ford-engine)
You could've continued your original thread. After all, it is still the same car.

Re: Frankenstein Sprint (Ford-engine)
I4 is quite well thought off, but a few suffer from timing chain failure without warning
with pretty nasty results....
So I'd be looking at getting some good bits in that area too....just in case.

Re: Frankenstein Sprint (Ford-engine)
Each to their own, but I always feel a little sad when a Sprint has its engine replaced. Apart from the badging and alloys, the drivetrain is such a defining part of a Sprint that, to my mind, a Sprint without an original engine is just a Dolomite, not a Sprint. Not that there's anything wrong with the lesser engined Dollys.

Re: Frankenstein Sprint (Ford-engine)
I look forward to your updates, a similiar idea to my build(Vauxhall XE engine with ford type 9 box)
ironic that you have GM 'box and ford engine and mine is the other way around!
the link to my thread is at the bottom of my signature if you wish to have a look, critique more than welcomed!

Isn't an MT75 a Ford gearbox?

I think we all know by now my utter devotion and dedication to standard cars but it would be a dull world if we were all the same i guess and i wsh you all the best with the build.
Kind Regards
