Sprint SU needles?

#1 Post by Sundowner »

Hello Folks,
I've just removed the SU's from my Sprint with the intention of overhauling them.
I've imported all the correct stuff to do so from Burlen's and although I have previous experience with SU's, they werent HS6's and it was many years ago. But I do still feel confident that I can handle the job.
However, before placing the order, when I checked, I found BCN needles installed. So I ordered a new pair. The car seemed to drive OK with them and when I did the Minty-Lamb comparison I soon found out that they differed only slightly from the factory installed BCM's, being just a tiny bit richer throughout the range.
In that same comparison I checked out BBT's and BDQ's.
I really like the graph line of the BDQ's as it shows that they are on the lean-ish side in the earlier 2/3rds, but rich-en up substantially (compared to the others anyway) in the later 1/3rd.
Given that BDQ's were fitted to the later cars, would there be any problem with me fitting them to my October 75 Sprint?
OR...should I start looking at other, non factory, needles? If so, what can you recommend?
Thanks & Cheers,
Rob

Interesting question, as I have BDQ in my 78 car and was wondering if they should be changed for something else. I will wait for the experts to arrive :)

I've removed your duplicate post Tony.

Rob, what sort of air filter are you using? If you're using a K&N style filter you will need richer needles to compensate for the extra airflow.

Thanks for your replies gents.

Toledo Man,
I am, right now, converting the thing over to run on sports air cleaners, and hadn't given any thought to what you've suggested. Thanks for that.

I've tried several times to do a screen captcha of the Minty Lamb site comparison of these needles, so I can post it here, but haven't succeded, probably due to me being a computer clutz.

Although the BCN's that are in the car presently are just slightly richer throughout the range than the BCM's, I don't think its enough.
I had been planning on installing a pair of either the BBT's or BDQ's. As I mentioned in the initial post I like the idea of the BDQ's as they're leaner while cruising but richer on acceleration.
However, the BBT's are richer by quite a bit (even over the BCN's) right throughout the range, and at this stage are my choice.

Once again,
Thanks.
Rob
