Thanks Russell,

Teething problems I can deal with, it's the gnashing in the gearbox that really bites !

But, I can almost see a light at the end of the worlds longest tunnell.

Yours is almost there, looking good.

Marginal being a tightwad but I'd think about recore-ing that.
Looks like you have had a pin hole leak at 8 o clock.

Try and save the frame though....give the bolts a good soak in bilt hamber deox and then plus gas and they may come out.

Thanks Jonner,

I been thinking about getting it re-cored, just needed a nudge.

Any recommendations on who is best to carry out, at fair price ?

Thanks Mahesh!! Yours is looking great too and im sure youll get to the bottom of the gearbox noises!! The place did a fantastic job with my rad recondition, they painted the frame too: if you want you can send it to me and id drop it off for you and send you it back or just give you the details to send yourself. Im sure theyre will be a local firm to you mind you but at least we know this place is up to speed with them. You may just want to replace though. Hope you are well. Kind Regards, Russell

Got waterpump spares from Robsport today, but the water flinger from Paddocks will be tomorrow, so bar two top bolts, removed all the rest from the inlet manifold, and took out the SU air filters.

Also removed the cooling fan, it just keep chaffing the hands, but as it was out it got a good clean.

Also received the water pump extraction tool (which is a lot smaller than I expected), luckily I have a forklift which I can use.

May tidy up the loose light leads in the morning and remove the front grills, the plastic holders are buckled.

Again another day I couldn't do much, shopping etc.

Removed the one last pesky bolt from the inlet manifold near the thermostat cover, and disconnected the return pipe to ease the whole assembly over a bit.
For now I haven't undone the carbs or removed the inlet manifold totally, but have removed the three waterpump bolts, they came out easier than expected, it's the cover that won't budge, it's been goldseal paint welded on.

I'm contemplating whether to knife it around, chisel it around, bash it with a rubber mallet (or lump hammer) or hook it and lift it.
Luckily rain stopped me going any further today.

I would advise first of all clearing away the inlet manifold and carbs. There are various quick and easy release methods for the throttle linkage. Lately Ive taken to splitting the entire throttle cable shebang from the manifold with the 2 7/16 bolts.

Then stick the manifold and carbs out of harms way in the boot, then you can see what you are doing...

You have a stuck on cover - common....sadly. But fear not they always come off...

With the bolts all out just whack the downward facing pipe tail that goes to the rad bottom hose sideways back and forth a few times.
This will crack the binding corrosion and it should then start to wiggle off and up by yanking on the same pipe.
You want to get the cover to rotate about 15 degrees either way without moving it upwards and it will come off...

Then the fun really starts....:-)

Exactly as you said Jon,

I removed the inlet manifold with carbs yeterday, not much to undo, choke cable, breather pipe, one fuel hose, and the complete throttle linkage.

The cover came off exactly as Jon stated, and with little bashing and no damage.

I get the feeling that a replacement water pump would be easier than the refurbing method, but the choice is made for now.

Did not think the impeller would be covered in barnacles, just have to clean it more, may look for another one.

Also apart from the bearing and water flinger, all the other items on the water pump seem to travel up and down the shaft around
7mm ?

Could not do any more yesterday evening, and I think today is more of a cleaning day as opposed to a doing day.

And it looks like there is some oil seeping out under the inlets,

Hi Mahesh, That isn't a crack in the cylinder block is it just south of the water pump cover ?
It looks like from the later piccys that the brass water-pump cage is stuck in the block. I think Mart and Jonners have good methods of removing it undamaged.
Cheers for now,
Tony.
