Throttle progression lever

Hi,
For all the time I've owned it, (around 5 years) I've been having trouble getting my Sprint to come back to idle, without giving it a blip on the throttle.
Well, after several hours of mucking around I found that the problem is a really sticky and well worn progression lever. You know, the bracketed part between the the accelerator cable and the carburetor linkages. It bolts onto the manifold.
I've looked around this interweb thing for one, without luck, but I do remember seeing one a couple of years ago on eBay. Can someone suggest where I should look for a good used one, or a new one please?
I'd even settle for a part number at this point.

Rob. Before you look at replacing the bracket try removing the air box lid and slackening the six bolts that hold the back of the air box to the carbs.
Sprintless for the first time in 35+ years. :boggle2: ... Still Sprintless.

Engines, Gearboxes, Overdrives etc. rebuilt. PM me.

Hi Mart,
There's no airbox fitted, just a pair of sports filters.
Will slackening the bolts in them do the same?

Rob, THIS resto thread might be of help to you. Check out the carb refurb. Every last part has been replaced or refurbished so it should help you. Do you have a parts catalogue? I've got it available for download from my BT Cloud.

No I doubt that will work as they are probably separate. What I've had happen in the past is when you tighten the original air box to the carbs, the throttle linkage binds just enough to stop the throttle going right back to it's stop.

The part number for this linkage & bracket looks like 158929 . It is the same on the Sprint and the 1850 which might give you more scope for finding one second hand.
I'd also check that the link bar running between the two carbs has just a little bit of left-right play. Not enough for it to come out of the forked lever though.

I just had this from Rimmer Bros. "regret now classed c1 obsolete not manufactured. not aware of a supplier"
Although I have a few avenues still left un-searched, I expect I'll be rebuilding mine.

They usually wear on the rivet where the lever pivots and also the nylon roller.

Sprintparts used to charge an arm and a leg for reconned ones...

I can't see it being too hard to do your own.

Spot on John.
The nylon roller and the pivot point are both cactus. But also, the flat ramp is notched on mine.

The TR7 one will also fit - it was fitted to the TR7 Sprint. Not sure if you have to make up a throttle spindle because of the difference in the distances between the 8 valve TR7 and the Sprint carbs. I did, when I made a copy for a fake TR7 Sprint convertable, but I don't remember if it was essential or cosmetic.

The TR7 linkage does not have the cam and follower, so it's not going to give the same opening profile, but it shouldn't wear/fail the same either.

The 16v Slant 4 engine is more fun than the 3.5 V8, because you mostly drive it on the upslope of the torque curve.

Gents,
Thanks for answering.
Its all sorted.
I removed the thing and found that a lot can be achieved by tightening rivets with a hammer and punch.
One of the three points is still a little dodgy but I feel I can replace that rivet with a SS pin, nut and some washers.....later if need be.
I ran a file over the ramp and its now smooth too.
Unlike before, the whole thing now moves freely and smoothly.
