You beat me to it Paul, without the second rings, the platforms will creep anyway, in fact I think it is the platforms that are missing and only the lock rings are present.
Those platforms do indeed look high to me and ARE compared with my car. But my car is very light compared with a Sprint and my springs are new and stock length and poundage. Are those springs you have fitted standard or uprated?

OK. I was going to ask which locknut but thought that was what you meant.
These Gaz shocks are 12+ years old. Very low mileage but not current stock by a long way.
I haven't missed anything out. This is what they have always been like both front and rear. It doesn't know any different for whatever reason.
On the ride height it is supposed to have HD springs. When the car was rebuilt I did some of the trim and out of workshop engine bits. The rest of it somebody else did with me supplying the parts in a lot of the cases. I assume they fitted the HD springs . But then again maybe they left off the spring seats so who knows.
Other than that it's a regular Sprint. The only extra in the engine compartment is an oil cooler. Probably offset by the lightened flywheel.

Sorry to contradict you but you should definitely have 2 lock rings on each damper. If you don't then the platform height will change over time(i.e the platform will wind itself further down the damper).
the above link shows the main spring platform (the one with the larger diameter) sitting above a smaller platform which locks (and hence, stops) the top platform from moving under load.
Sorry. I'm not saying you're wrong. Just that the car has never had two lock rings ever since the new shocks were put on years ago. I don't possess any other parts with which to resolve this and never have done

Ah! I see. Yes they should have a locking screw if you only have one bottom mount. The Spax I have just fitted to XJX don't have locking screws but they do have the locking ring.
Sprintless for the first time in 35+ years. ... Still Sprintless.
Engines, Gearboxes, Overdrives etc. rebuilt. PM me.
I'm pretty sure mine were never supplied with two rings and I'm certain they never had two rings fitted. I just checked the back ones and they are the same. What I need to do is check regarding the locking screws. Do that tomorrow

Mine do have allen key grub screw type locking arrangements. I can't imagine it's as robust as the two lock rings which might be why they changed ..... assuming they have but mine are pretty old.
The locking screws on AVO shocks are rubbish indeed. They're made of plastic, the allen key to tighten them slips very easily thus ruining the screw. Replaced mine with a 'normal' steel bolt, which in turn ruins the thread on the shock when tightened too much...
I'd prefer the two rings solution.
So do I - but you have to be careful when securing the two rings - they only need nipping together, if you secure them like you would normally think to secure the two together you will never get them apart.
GAZ advised me of the above when I purchased my locknut spanners from them - shame the spanners were not supplied with the shocks.
I bought my Gaz through the TSSC and they came with spanners, 1 with the front pair and (about a year later) 1 with the rear pair!
Nobody told me to be gentle with the lock rings but I only nipped them anyway. I've also been generous with copaslip on the threads and so far have had no trouble adjusting, even with the weight on the wheels (a 4 poster ramp helps!)
