I need to replace the worn switch for the heated back windscreen, it still works but can short out as it is being switched off .
Being on an early car, said switch is rather awkwardly located underneath the dashboard fascia so I am going to relocate it to
the gear lever console (a la T2000) which I know is a better location.
To reduce the strain on the switch I am going to wire it in using a relay.
So is this a worthwhile improvement?
thanks,
Ian.

Anything with a reasonably high current draw, and an HRW is certainly that, is better off protected by a relay.

Ian, I'd be interested in this. When I fitted my early-type dashboard I lost the HRW switch. I agree that a relay is a good idea. Wiring it would be the same principle as the headlight relays. It might be a bit harder to keep the wiring runs short. I was thinking of fitting a switch plate under the dashboard to mount the switch but I like your idea. I was also considering using a Mini or a TR7 HRW switch either of which would be period perfect and would be in keeping with the BL "parts bin" philosophy.
