Autocar Long term test Mimosa Sprint - found in scrapyard

#1 Post by YMW860V »

Anyone recall last year (or earlier) that the ex Autocar long term test Sprint (not FRW) was found in a bad way languishing at a scrappies with a selection of other basket case Dolomites?

I seem to remember it all got a bit controversial and as a result it went quiet.

Anyone know for sure if it was saved. :?

Seemed the provenance was there corrct reg mark and mod's like the engine bay bar etc.

I would also love to know what became of this most special of Sprints as it really is a piece of Triumph history...

If anybody out there knows anything about this Sprint please do let us know!

Thanks for the effusive reply! ;)
Come and see some pretty shoddy, slow driving of a really well prepared competition Sprint here!

In your original post you asked "Anyone know for sure if it was saved." Well I do know that it was saved. I also know that it will be restored one day but no work has been started as yet. How is that being "elusive"? Crikey, I didn't expect a kind of Spanish Inquisition!
Surely the important thing is that the car has been saved? :D

No-one expects the Spanish inquisition...

Among are many weapons are a forum, a couple of moderators and an almost fanatical devotion to
the SU carburetor...

I think Shaun he used sarcasm...whit repartee and hyperbole. He were ruthless...

and effusive in his praise....for the saving of another of the golden 1500...

or was it 500?

Snigger.......

I wouldn't mind knowing when it was saved, who's doing it....ie, anyone on here and when it might be done by....all said in a mock Spanish accent whilst twirling my distinctly Mediterranean moustache and beard....ahem...

I haven't got a good spanish accent so I won't try one on here...!!!!!!!

It is so good to hear that this car got saved, I remember that there was a bit of 'heat' surrounding it when it was discovered! I was worried that this could have caused the end of this car but I'm pleased it got worked out(ish!) in the end...

I wonder if it would be worth getting in touch with Autocar to let them know one of their test cars is still out there?! You never know, if they like the idea of it being restored they may want to re-test it when it is complete and may even help with the restoration costs...?!?!?! Just a thought...

Anyhow, I look forward to seeing the restoration start one day soon...!
