Dolomite 1300,1980`V`reg in british racing brown(russet),3.63 diff with 21t speedo pinion,95%poly`d,HL clocks,standard wheels with SE covers wrapt in 175 70 13,mot`d 19-09-2014,been off the since 1990,(july2017) stainless steel exhaust 3-piece,(xmas2018) wooden mountney steering wheel,(june2020) new monroe shock(radial front,gas-matic rears) with -1" lower`d springs all round.

Hard to be sure, but looks repairable, traumatic event regardless.

It will be written off if the insurance get their own way. I hope the owners had an agreed value on their policy. Are they known to the Club?

Bit harsh on teh insurance company old chap. They don't like to write cars off, they like to save money!
Just had a wing crunched by my sisters neighbour. Single panel on our zafira.
Quote to replace wing(cost £142+vat) plus fit and paint came to a total of £880. So I cant see how on earth they could get that car straightened out under £3k probably more. Add in the difficulty getting panels and so on.....
However, they may be able to buy it back and use the insurance settlement to get it repaired using sh panels and so on, but the cmpany will rightly want nothing to do with that sort of repair.
In my zaffy case, I agreed a settlement of £750 cash. No hire car costs or anything else. The company readily accepted that.
I bought a sh wing in the correct colour for £75, and fitted it. Pretty close, not as good as the bodyshop would get it (they would blend the surrounding panels) but I will use the remainder to offset the reduced value of the car and hopefully be better off. Time will tell!

Mine? no, it is just a minor claim, no different to them repairing it.
If you speak properly to an insurance company and make sense, they are usually helpful.
All I have done is accepted a payment so I can repair he car at my own convenience. It is probably cheaper for the insurance company too, as no hire cars etc involved. plus it saves them lots of paperwork and possibility of quotes increasing.

Within 6 weeks of completing my GT6 convertible, it was badly damaged TWICE, once whilst stationary (I wasn't even in it!) the o/s/r quarter and door were damaged by a woman reversing off her drive into it, then 3 weeks later, a woman pulled out in front of me from a junction and nearly destroyed the bonnet and put a slight kink in the o/s/f chassis (it wrote off her Fiesta)
2 separate assessors came to see it, confusingly the man for the second incident turned up first! Both were eminently willing to do a deal and I very rapidly got 2 cheques, 1 for £750 and 1 for £1000! Since the car had cost me less than £1000 to build in actual money spent, I was quite pleased with this (it was 1987) and besides repairing the damage, it paid for a roll cage, a hardtop and a few other goodies for the car!
Somehow though, I never quite felt the same about it afterwards even though it still drove beautifully and I raced it 2 seasons in the TSSC challenge series, the love had gone and I stopped waxing it. When the rot started to reappear 5 or so years later, I stripped it and sold the bits!

The good news is they weren't in it, you always fear the worst with classic car crashes. No crumple zones means you are sitting in the crumple zone. A dolly would stand very little chance against a modern.
It is sad to see a car destroyed, but it can be replaced, and people can't.
