I recently purchased a boot lid seal from Rimmer thinking it would be the 'grip on the lip' type, turns out it's not, it's a replacement for the original. I called them up and asked how I'm supposed to attach it for best performance, they can't help.
How would people glue this to the boot? Or wouldn't you bother? I'm confused with the design.
Existing seal, grips nicely but isn't big enough to stop the boot rattling: bootseal1
On a Stag or spitfire, which is what its for. It wont ever seal on a dolomite so you are wasting your time and will fill your boot
with fumes. Not wishing to sound terse and rude... Welcome to the asylum.

There are several very similar profiles of this seal type available.
I have one on my car of a similar profile, originally intended for a late T2000. It seals better than the original type.
Anyhow, I think the one you have in the photo is upside down. At any rate I would have fitted it the other way up.

hi this is the same seal Rimmers supplied for my 1300 and it was actually similar the the original seal but way too thick. It should be glued to the lid but rotated 90 deg to what you show so that the lip is facing up not sideways like you show. I had thin the rectangular section down to get the lid shut regards Terry
I got one of these for my dolomite and had the same problems deciding which way was up. Eventually sorted it out and got some supposedly correct adhesive to fit. Didn't go well. As one part went on another part came off. Ended up with three of us holding it on waiting for it to go off. Thought it had let go OK for a while and off it dropped. Now I can smile but not then.
Got another cleaned up everything and this time used a different contact adhesive. Failed again b#***#+*dy thing stuck to quick before it could be positioned correctly. Don't laugh we couldn't at the time.
Got one that fits on the body lip. Brilliant two minute job and it works very well if not original looking. Wish I had just got one of these first.
PS the profile on my seal is not the same as in the first picture but has more of a wiper blade shape, was longer than required and had to be cut to length. The boot lid seals very well doesn't rattle and actually is harder to close than before and takes a fair slam to latch. Since fitting I have had no leaks.

Thanks for the info and sharing.
Can you remember the source and part number of the body lip seal?
